Kanban and your departments impediments

So you have a department or a Scrum of Scrums pushing out very large impediments all over the place and it just seems to be a sea of problems. How can you focus on priorities that can change frequently whilst appreciating there’s only so much you can do?

Here’s where Kanban comes in. Set a work in progress limit on the impediments you, as a department head can work on, and get the teams to prioritise these. If you can take on two impediments at a time put these on a visible board and make sure they get done. After this take the next most important problems and run in the same way. The teams can re-focus the backlog of issues to keep everyone in agreement and on track!
